• Firstly, you want to start off by working out how much you are willing to spend on buying a guitar. If you are a beginner, then you would not want to spend a great amount on a guitar. You would want to keep your budget low. Most guitar prices range from zero to three-hundred pounds, some being more expensive than others depending what one you get. If you want to get a cheap one, then why not look in your local charity shops or even pawn shops and see what deals they got in there but with cheap guitars, they might have been made with cheap material so the sound quality wouldn’t sound as good. You want to make sure if you do get a guitar, that you will have enough money to last you the month.
  • You would want to do some research before buying a guitar. Have a look at what brands and what types of guitar you would want to get as different guitars have different sounds to them.
  • You must decide if you are going to play an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar. It depends on the style you’re into and wants to play. The difference between an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar is that the electric guitar does not have a sound hole so therefore it must be plugged into an amplifier to fully hear the sound and with the acoustic guitar, it makes sound due to the hold in the guitar just by strumming the strings.
  • Before buying a guitar, always play the guitar so you know what sound it gives off. Not playing the guitar before buying it can be a big mistake as it might not give you the sound that you wanted. If you are a beginner and struggling to find what sound you want, you can always ask for advice from the employers in the shop as most of them will have the knowledge you need.
  • Depending on the style of music you want to play, you will need to find a guitar that will suit the style you want. You can go to a guitar shop and try as many guitars as you want until you’ll find the perfect guitar for you.
  • If you do buy a new or second-hand guitar, make sure you look for any cracks or any damaged strings because that could make the tune not sound as good as it should. When adjusting the guitar strings, if you don’t know what key it should be in, just ask the sales person at the shop and I’m sure that they will have you with any problem that you have.
  • When purchasing the guitar, make sure you have everything to go with it such as a guitar bag so it does not get damaged or broken, new strings in case any of the strings break and a warranty if the shops do one.
  • Last of all, if you are a beginner or just need to touch up on your guitar playing skills then go and book some lessons. You could learn from a book or online but it would be much easier if someone in the flesh can teach you themselves.
